Happy Halloween!

Our Halloween was a little bit off this year. Josh was in California for two weeks for a training school and only got back on Oct 29. So he missed the Trunk or Treat on the base, we didn't have time to plan and prepare for a Halloween Party (like last year), and I didn't want to do the Halloween event at the Zoo without him. But at least he was here for Trick or Treating on Halloween night.

At first, we weren't sure of the plans or if Josh was going to be around, so Dylan and I planned costumes together and let Josh do his own thing. Dylan was a huge inspiration for his costume this year. He is a wild man and is ALL BOY! So what better costume for him than the super strong and outgoing Bam Bam Rubble. And Betty is adorable, so I was all for it!

The bad news was that I could not find a cute Bam Bam costume anywhere. All of the ones online looked a little ridiculous! So, that meant I had to stretch my creative powers and try to put something together. Thankfully, Dylan is the cutest little guy ever and wears anything well. I think it turned out pretty decent. And he even carried that club around for the first hour! Way to play the part, Buddy!

His "club" was his tee-ball bat, the "fur" sash was a scarf made by my Grandma Gisele, and the bone was drawn and cutout on thick Styrofoam posterboard. His vest was a bit too small, but I figured if that was the one thing that went wrong, I was still doing okay.
Josh kept up his Superhero streak and went as Clark Kent. I think he pulled it off really well. Doesn’t he look really different in those glasses? Hummm…maybe Lois Lane wasn’t quite the idiot we make her out to be! Regardless, he was a stud. My hero!

We went over to the Runnels’ neighborhood because they really go all out over there. The Scott’s came too, so we had a 2-yr old Elleah as a clown, 1-yr old Bam Bam, and 4 month old Lily the Owl!

Dylan did great while Trick or Treating. Just like the big boy that he is, he walked most of the way! But, just like the rebel that he is, he wanted to go his own way, on his own terms. So, we ended up having to carry him for most of the second half of the neighborhood.

Overall, it was a successful night. Dylan’s pail was full from making the rounds...so that made Daddy really happy! When we finished our loop of the neighborhood, we all went out to dinner together.

Our Halloween ended with cuddling on the couch while watching “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” What a way to spend a holiday! I hope you all had a fun and frightening Halloween!

Who is your Favorite Superhero?

What a great time to have a little boy! The Superhero world has exploded over the last few years and I don’t see an end in sight. Back in the day, I only knew of a handful of Superheroes. You know, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and I remembered seeing some strange grunting green man-thing on TV once. But now, all those characters that I never thought I’d have to worry about because they were trapped in those comic books have emerged!

It also helps that Josh and I are big movie people., and we are big suckers for Summer Blockbusters. So, I have been immersed into the Marvel & DC worlds. I knew more about Superheroes than I ever thought I would, even before I found out I was having a son!

Now that I have a little boy, I know that I am going to learn more about all these super-people because I won’t want my little boy to think I’m an idiot when he starts talking super-powers and I’m just making stuff up. Ask me about a Disney Princess and I could talk all day…but it’s now time for me to put on my colored tights and become SuperMom.

I have to confess that I am loving the Marvel movie chain. They won me over with Iron Man. Maybe that was mostly due to Robert Downey Jr. (Way to go Marvel - choosing a heartbreaking to win over the ladies). But I digress… I am hooked. I admit that I look forward to each next installment, and I’m even getting really excited about the Multi-Hero cast of The Avengers. And, even though some do not agree with me, I’m even more excited now that Disney acquired the Marvel rights. Two things I like smooshed together? Winning combination!

So, my question is, who is your favorite Superhero? If anyone has been around my husband in the last year, you probably already know his answer. He flaunted his answer at Halloween last year. Captain America (AKA Steve Rogers) is the obvious choice for him.

I didn’t want to be left out, so I decided that I needed to pick a favorite as well. That way, when Dylan asks me (2-3 years from now) I can have my answer ready. Well, I didn’t want to choose one of the overly-used 3, Superman, Batman or Spiderman. And I didn’t want to choose the same favorite as Josh, because I didn’t want to seem like I was just picking him because Josh did. So, who to pick? I was stumped. From all of the movies that I’ve seen so far, I always seem to have the same problem with the Superhero. Every single one of them seemed to have an annoying personality trait that came along with his great power. Whether it be arrogance (Iron Man and Thor) or weird anger issues (Toby Maguire’s Spiderman), there just always seemed to be some characteristic that I didn’t like. Don’t get me wrong, I still really like Iron Man and Thor. But enough to be my favorite??

Then yesterday, Josh & I went to see Captain America. Now, I know I didn’t want to pick the same favorite as Josh, but I think it is unavoidable. How can my favorite not be the guy who has an incredible heart, amazing character, and the immovable desire to serve his country. (And that it was played by Chris Evans’ didn’t hurt either…yes, I‘m a woman with eyes. Sorry, Josh) So, the decision is made!

The move was really good, and if you plan to go see it make sure you stay after the credits for the traditional short scene at the end of all the Marvel Movies. If you are one of those people who are excited about The Avengers movie next summer, it will be well worth it!
